Spreading the joy of Eid among Little Stars : While city dwellers are gearing up for Eid-Ul-Fitr celebration with their families, Heroes for All (HFA) and
ASHIC Foundation have thought of a different way to bring smiles and joy to the underprivileged
children fighting cancer. With the Eid-ul-Fitr right around the corner, these two voluntary organizations
decided to spread the festive vibe of Eid-Ul-Fitr among the ailing children and their despairing parents.
With their parents in attendance, the children this morning had an occasion to escape the pain of the
disease. On Friday, 29 th of April 2022, the premises of ASHIC Foundation at Kazi Nazrul Islam Avenue,
Dhaka witnessed a very enjoyable time.
According to World Child Cancer organization’s website, “It is estimated that around 9000-12000
children develop cancer in Bangladesh every year….yet less than 1% of these children ever access
palliative care”. This seems to happen mainly because of limited awareness among the people. The
purpose of the event was also to inform and raise awareness about the issue among the citizens in the
country.
The programme was organized to give the children and their parents a break from the hospital visits,
their despair and grief. They watched a Magic show with wonder and curiosity as Walid Hassan, the
magician captivated the audience with his mesmerizing performance. It was followed by a brief
discussion in which inspirational speeches were delivered by the Finance Secretary of HFA, Ms.
Mahmuda Mannan, herself a cancer survivor, along with Chief Project Coordinator of HFA Mr. Yeasrib
Hassan. This was followed by distribution of some attractive Eid-gifts to the ailing children by the
members of the Executive body of HFA. The combined efforts of all the members of Heroes for All,
ASHIC Foundation and the 93 rd batch of North South University made the event a very enjoyable occasion on the eve of Eid. ― Aninda Srijan Osman
